The Young And The Restless (Y&R) actress Allison Lanier, who plays Summer Newman, announced today that she will be leaving the sudser.
Lanier debuted in the role of Summer, the daughter of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), on May 17, 2022. Her last episode will be on Friday, May 2.
“I’ve loved the journey and learned so much but it’s time to grow in a different direction,” the actress posted on her X this afternoon. “Very grateful for all of the Y&R fans who have supported me.”

Fans reacted with disappointment to Lanier’s news on social media. “Enjoyed what you brought to the role of Summer, and what you gave to Skyle and Summance,” one fan posted. “We would have loved more time with you in role but know that did leave a mark!”
Another viewer told the actress she “absolutely rocked as Summer Newman! Sad to see you go, but pray that all is well and will go well for you moving forward. What’s gonna happen to Summer now?”
The character of Summer will be put through a crisis in the next two episodes. As viewers know, both Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) are planning on quitting their jobs at Marchetti.

Plus, Summer will also learn some upsetting personal news. Her ex-husband Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is planning to move in with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin). Perhaps Summer will decide to move back to Italy to run Marchetti.
It’s not yet known if the role will be recast. Hunter King played Summer from 2012 to 2016 and from 2018 to 2022. So, could she be returning? Stay tuned!
